Some disposable plastic products will disappear from the Slovak market, while the incineration of waste collected for recycling will be banned, according to an environment ministry-sponsored amendment proposal to the Waste Act approved by the cabinet on Wednesday. The ban on single-use plastic products, namely plastic plates, cutlery, drink stirrers, straws, balloon sticks, cotton buds, food containers made of expanded polystyrene, beverage packaging and cups made of expanded polystyrene, will enter into effect in 2021. The ban also applies to oxo-degradable plastics, as this type of plastic is not biodegradable and degrades into micro-plastics that pollute the environment.
