Nearly 2 million euros were channelled last year to state coffers from fines paid by mostly Slovak drivers who used motorways without stickers, Hospodarske Noviny daily reported on Friday. Pavol Zajac of the extra-parliamentary Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) recently criticised the transport ministry and the National Highway Company for not imposing fines on foreign drivers. He calculated that as much as 90 million euros get lost this way. According to KDH, 540,000 foreign cars were driving across Slovakia free of charge in 2016. The ministry said in response that all drivers were controlled equally.
