Slovak MEPs on Wednesday in Strasbourg condemned the continuation of checks at some internal border crossing points within the Schengen zone, with MEP Jozsef Nagy (Most-Hid) claiming that this "harassment of people" needed to stop. Nagy, who is a deputy coordinator of the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Afffairs as well as rapporteur of the European People's Party political group for reform of Schengen rules, lent his support to a report criticising the state of affairs regarding internal Schengen borders. "The illegal harassment of passengers inside EU borders and at airports needs to stop. Free movement of people is more than just a symbol to me," the MEP told TASR, pointing to longstanding internal border checks between Sweden and Denmark that cause the collapse of cross-border trade and fetter the mobility of labour force.
