Slovak govt to spend 50 m euros on student hostels

A total of 50 million euros will be used to restore university halls of residence, with 20 million euros to be spent this year, Prime Minister Robert Fico said after a meeting with university rectors on Wednesday. Rudolf Kropil, head of the Slovak Rectors' Conference welcomed the agreement, while Martina Lubyova, the education minister, said that it was the first time in 30 years that Slovakia "has managed to decide on a systemic and mass reconstruction" of university student hostels.
