The Slovak Food Chamber (PKS) welcomes the government's plan to reduce the VAT rate on nappies and babies' milk and food within the "second social package", PKS president Jana Venhartova told TASR in reaction to the new social package heralded by Prime Minister Robert Fico. According to Venhartova, PKS has for a long time been pointing to the fact that Slovakia has the highest VAT rate for foodstuffs among the Visegrad Four (V4) countries and one of the highest among EU-member states. VAT reductions for a selected group of products in 2016 failed to bring the desired effect, as there was an unsuitable range of food with a lower VAT rate.
