Slovak food authority conducts over 300 checks for insecticide-tainted eggs

The Slovak Veterinary and Food Directorate (SVPS) has carried out more than 300 checks for the presence of the banned insecticide fipronil in eggs and other food products since early August, TASR has learned. According to the Agriculture Ministry, inspections have been carried out at farms, distribution warehouses, bakeries, mayonnaise factories as well as in the retail sector. The presence of fipronil was detected at a distributor in Bratislava, in a food warehouse in Vrbove (Trnava region), in luxury hotels in Bratislava and in a bakery in Presov. All products were withdrawn from the market and destroyed.
