Poland's Senate voted on Friday to adopt a law ratifying the contract establishing the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), thereby opening the way for Poland to become a full member. As a result of the decision, Poland will be able to have an influence on the EMBL's research agenda. The Senate voted to ratify the contract, drawn up in Geneva in 1973, with 81 votes in favour and one abstention. It paves the way for Poland to gain the status of member state of the EMBL -- an international research organisation of European countries. The main aim of the EMBL is to conduct research in the field of molecular biology, train academic staff at all levels, provide scientific services to the organisation's member states and actively engage in the transfer of technology.
