Government support for the Hungarian diaspora over the recent period has been unprecedented, Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen told a session of the Hungarian Diaspora Council on Thursday. Semjen, the junior ruling Christian Democrat leader, said the Fidesz-led government's goal of shaping diaspora organisations into a "home for all Hungarians" had been accomplished. Funds for Hungarian communities abroad have grown tenfold since Fidesz came to power, he said at the council's 7th plenary session. Schemes funded by the Hungarian government have helped 115 young Hungarians visit diaspora communities in 2017, while 2,500 young diaspora Hungarians have come here to study, he said.
