Two Polish families and two nuns were awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medals and titles at a ceremony in the southern Polish town of Biecz on Thursday for their roles in saving Jews during the Second World War. Israeli Ambassador to Poland Anna Azari said the distinctions were the only way to repay the debt of gratitude to the Righteous. The ambassador underscored that it was the first such ceremony since Poland's controversial anti-defamation law was amended. She welcomed that the law had been changed and hope that both sides could start again with a clean sheet. Azari said that tolerance for others should be fought for every day, adding that education against racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism was a task for all.
