Prague considers Golan Heights occupied territory

March 27th, 2019

The Czech Republic supports the joint European and UN Security Council's position considering the Golan Heights an occupied territory and will not take steps to violate international resolutions or law, Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek told CTK today. The United States unilaterally recognised the Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights this week. Russia, Syria, Turkey as well as some EU countries, including Germany and France, rejected this step. Bassil also stood up against the U.S. recognition of Israel's claim on the Golan Heights and called the U.S step a violation of the rights of Syria that also claimed the territory.
