President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw on Monday decorated Poles who rescued Jews during World War II, with Polonia Restituta medals. Handing out the distinctions, Duda called the recipients of the honours "heroes without weapons." During the ceremony in Warsaw's Presidential Palace, Duda observed that Poles who helped Jews escape the Holocaust in German-occupied Poland were uncommon heroes who "showed that there was still some good left in the world".
