The Polish government on Thursday adopted a bill which sets out the rules for the disclosure of passenger data by airlines, in line with a European Union directive and with a view to combating terrorism. Under the new regulations, air carriers will pass on passengers' travel data to the Border Guard (SG). The data will then be processed by police and other agencies, for the purposes of the prevention, detection and combating of terrorism and other crimes, as well as the prosecution of perpetrators. By enacting the new legislation, Poland will bring its regulations into line with the EU's directive on the use of passenger name record (PNR) data, which member states are obliged to do until May 25, 2018.
