Poland's Environment Minister Henryk Kowalczyk said on Tuesday that the country must not let itself become Europe's "illegal rubbish dump". Speaking to reporters after Tuesday's cabinet session, Kowalczyk said that within two weeks, new policies will be proposed to curb the illegal storage and disposal of waste. His declaration comes after a series of fires at rubbish dumps around the country, including in Zgierz (central Poland), Trzebinia (southern Poland) and Wszedzien (northern Poland). Authorities say some of them could have been deliberate, to illegally dispose of the waste.
