Plaque with names of fallen soldiers unveiled at military cemetery in Zilina

April 30th, 2018

The 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Zilina was commemorated at the military cemetery memorial in Zilina-Borik and at the memorial of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps soldiers in the SNP Park in Zilina on Monday, attended by delegations of the Russian and Belarus embassies. Chairman of the Slovak Association of Anti-fascist Fighters (SZPB) Juraj Drotar underlined that thanks to the cooperation with the Russian Embassy, they managed in 2016, 2017 and 2018 to identify the soldiers buried at the Military Cemetery. "Up to 2018, we stated that 1,768 Red Army soldiers were buried at the cemetery. We've unveiled today a plaque for the soldiers lying here in common graves or alone and we've reached the number 1,907," Drotar said.
