The Polish Teachers' Union's (ZNP) protest planned for this Saturday in front of the Education Ministry, during which the union will demand a EUR 240 pay rise, is based on false premises, according to Education Minister Anna Zalewska. The union will stage a nationwide demonstration under the banner "We've had enough!" amid demands for a PLN 1,000 (EUR 240) pay rise for teachers as well as calling for Zalewska's dismissal. ZNP head Slawomir Broniarz has said that the pay increases for teachers that the government has been implementing since April will not improve the teachers' financial situation or the profession's status. He stressed that the teachers' basic monthly pay was raised by PLN 93-168 (EUR 22-40) gross, which according to him keeps teaching as one of the worse paid jobs in Poland.
