The Polish Sejm (lower house of parliament) adopted a law on Friday that implements the EU Data Protection Law Enforcement Directive, which governs the processing of personal data in the prevention of and fight against crime. The new law on processing personal data for law enforcement purposes provides for the introduction of the EU directive, which "protects citizens' fundamental rights to data protection whenever personal data is used by criminal law enforcement authorities for law enforcement purposes," according to the European Commission's website.
