Opposition demands resignation of Slovak public media leadership

May 31st, 2018

Slovakia's opposition SaS party has called on the leadership of Radio and Television Slovakia (RTVS) to step down after 12 of their journalists handed in their notice earlier on Thursday, saying that the departure of the journalists was a "painful blow for public broadcasting". SaS said that under the current leadership RTVS "can't provide licence fee payers with a balanced, impartial and objective news service, as the top [RTVS] officials aren't interested in quality journalism," the party said in a statement. The opposition OLaNO party also views the departure of 12 journalists as a failure of the management. According to OLaNO MP Veronika Remisova, the outgoing editors have helped the RTVS news service to win the trust of the public.
