Ombudswoman Patakyova urges Sakova to allow voting from abroad

April 30th, 2019

Ombudswoman Maria Patakyova has asked Interior Minister Denisa Sakova to prepare a change of legislation to allow Slovaks to vote from abroad. Patakyova said the voting right of Slovak citizens living abroad also needed to be fulfilled, arguing that participation in the administration of public matters via electing representatives was among the basic pillars of democracy. She added that it was necessary that Slovaks living abroad be able to vote, whether by postal services or electronic means, in all kinds of elections, and not only in general elections and referendums.
