The murdered Slovak investigative journalist Jan Kuciak has been given the Axel Springer Academy's first International Special Award for his research into business relations between Slovak government employees and entrepreneurs and the Italian Mafia, the German publishing house reported on its website. The award was accepted by Kuciak's sister Maria and editor-in-chief of the news portal Aktuality.sk in Berlin on Thursday. Kuciak was a member of the investigative team at Aktuality.sk, which belongs to Ringier Axel Springer Slovakia.
