Minister: Logging only where necessary

September 11th, 2017

Logging in the Bialowieza Forest is being conducted only where necessary to assure public safety, Polish Environment Minister Jan Szyszko told the European Court of Justice on Monday. "We have totally subordinated ourselves to the ban on Bialowieza Forest logging," Szyszko told the Court, adding that work is being conducted only where it serves to assure public safety. Szyszko, speaking during a Monday hearing of the European Court of Justice, motioned for the lifting of an EC-imposed temporary ban on all logging in the pristine Bialowieza Forest.
