LMP proposes ban on plastic shopping bags

Hungary's green opposition LMP party has said it will submit a bill banning shops from distributing plastic shopping bags from 2020. Plastic bags should be replaced with products made of sustainable materials such as linen or cloth, Mate Kanasz-Nagy told a press conference on Wednesday. Modern life is becoming increasingly unsustainable, he noted, adding that Earth Overshoot Day, which marks the date when humanity has used more from nature than the planet can renew in the entire year, is coming earlier each year, and this year falls on Aug. 1.
