January 29th, 2019
The three-month moving average of the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) went down by 0.5 points month-on-month in January 2019 to its lowest level (97.1 points) since May 2014, mainly due to a decrease in consumer confidence and confidence in industry, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. The current ESI lags behind the long-term average by 6.5 points and by 3.6 points in year-on-year terms. The confidence indicator in industry went down by 3.3 percentage points (p.p.) to minus 2 in January, negatively influenced by an expected decrease in production over the next three months and a drop in orders.
