Injured Czech lorry driver to stay in Genoa hospital for one week

August 15th, 2018

The Czech lorry driver of Prague's SPED-IT haulier who was injured in the bridge collapse in Genoa, Italy, suffered five broken ribs but is feeling well and will stay in a local hospital for up to one week for observation, SDED-IT executive Vaclav Zazvurek told CTK on Wednesday. The lorry plunged 45 metres to the ground from the bustling Morandi motorway bridge after a section of it collapsed in northern Italy on Tuesday. "The seatbelt certainly saved his life. Maybe also the fact that the lorry is new, from a new Mercedes generation, helped him. He was also lucky that the semi-trailer probably unlinked," Zazvurek said.
