Hungary teachers' union: Budget allocation for education insufficient

June 15th, 2018

The 2019 draft budget is set to result in accumulating problems in education instead of offering solutions, the head of teachers' trade union PDSZ said on Friday. The 15 billion forint (EUR 46.6m) increase in education spending would be hardly enough to keep the sector at level and it is feared that "the starvation of the sector" could be restarted, Tamas Szucs told a press conference. Schools from around the country report delays in payment for teachers' extra hours and they often find it hard to get funding for even minor tasks, such as lawn mowing, Szucs said.
