The government is launching an afforestation scheme in the autumn that will help grow some 650 hectares of new forest across the country, Peter Kaderjak, a state secretary of the innovation and technology ministry (ITM), said on Friday. Under the programme, the ITM and the Ministry of Agriculture will spend 2 billion forints on planting 3 million trees throughout Hungary, Kaderjak told public news channel M1. The largest forest this year will be grown in Pest County, he said, noting that under the government's climate protection action plan, ten new trees are planted for every newborn in the country. The 100,000 births projected for this year will yield one million new trees, he said.
