House rejects motion to discuss opposition bills at extraordinary session

December 4th, 2019

Parliament won't deliberate on the postponed opposition bills at an extraordinary session, as the lawmakers didn't approve its agenda on Wednesday. The session was initiated by the opposition, which claims that having its bills re-scheduled constitutes a breach of lawmakers' democratic rights. A total of 56 MPs voted for the session's agenda, with 23 voting against and 39 choosing to abstain. The majority of Smer-SD, SNS leader Andrej Danko and independent MPs Peter Marcek and Rastislav Holubek voted against the motion, whereas the rest of SNS lawmakers abstained as well as those of Most-Hid. The opposition lent support to the proposal.
