The ruling Smer-SD party's proposal to introduce the option for people to donate 2 percent of their income tax to their parents is a "populist and non-systemic step", chairman of the non-parliamentary Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) Alojz Hlina told a news conference in Bratislava on Wednesday. According to Hlina, KDH proposed a similar measure back in 2016, but the difference was that it was designed to form part of a sustainable pension system. Although the idea is good, it should not be implemented as an ad hoc measure before elections, said Hlina. KDH concurs with Smer-SD that children should be able to give 2 percent of their taxes to their parents, but only under certain conditions.
