On Monday, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski criticised a plan for the European Parliament to adopt a resolution on the situation in Poland. "MEPs do not know the direction that changes in the Polish judiciary are going", he said. "Why has this procedure been initiated? Why is the matter being discussed, when the legislative process concerning changes to the judicial system in Poland haven't started yet? Discussions are going on behind the backs of a political group that I also represent", Waszczykowski told journalists in Brussels. The European Parliament is to debate the issue of the rule of law in Poland at a plenary session on Wednesday. Later, MEPs will vote on a resolution, which, according to unofficial sources, will open the way for filing a motion to possibly result in the EU Council's statement that there exists a clear risk of a serious breach of EU values by Poland.
