First Slovak faces accusation of participating in combat in Ukraine

A man identified only as Mario R. has become the first Slovak to face an accusation of participating in the combat activities of an organised armed group in Ukraine, the police said on social media on Monday. If found guilty, Mario R. could be sentenced to two to eight years in prison. "Mario R. has been actively participating in the armed conflict on the territory of another state as a member of organised combat groups fighting on the side of pro-Russian separatists mainly in Donetsk province in Donbas region at least as of July 2015 to the present," police said. An investigator of the national anti-terrorism unit of the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) has accused Mario R. of the crime of participating in the combat activities of an organised armed group on the territory of another country.
