The ruling Fidesz party has hit back at Social Democrat MEP Josef Weidenholzer's criticism of the government's "Stop Soros" bill, saying that the reason why "the pro-migrant European left" was "attacking" the bill was because Fidesz posed an obstacle to migration. Weidenholzer, the vice-president of the European Parliament's Socialists and Democrats group, said in Brussels on Wednesday that the Hungarian government's "Stop Soros" bill "contradicts European values". He also called on the European People's Party to expel Fidesz from its ranks.
