Fico's media advisor joins Smer-SD

Erik Tomas, an MP for Smer-SD since 2016 and media advisor to Smer chief and former prime minister Robert Fico, announced on a social network on Tuesday that he has joined the main governing party. "Many will probably be surprised that this has taken place after so many years, but my professional activities in communications [on Smer's behalf] didn't require partisan membership. Nevertheless, I've been a politician and MP for Smer-SD since 2016, so I thought that it would be appropriate to become its member," said Tomas, adding that party membership will give him more legitimacy in presenting Smer's views and commenting on internal issues in the party.
