Farmers unable to shift grain due to low Danube water level

November 20th, 2018

Harvested grains are stuck in warehouses because the low water level of the River Danube means that river shipments have basically stopped, the daily Magyar Idok said on Tuesday. Demand remains high yet producers are having to sit on deals until they can be concluded by a later shipment, the paper said. There has been very little rain in the past few months and this has also affected sales. But most grain stocks exit the country via the Danube and ship traffic is virtually paralysed, it added.
