Fallen trees, power lines block roads in heavy snowfall in E Slovakia

January 25th, 2021

Heavy snowfall on Monday morning has caused problems in eastern Slovakia, with the police reducing the speed limit on the D1 motorway between Presov and Hybe (the eastern part of Zilina region) from 130 kilometres per hour to 80 kph. Meanwhile, drivers reported on social media that a key road connecting the towns of Vranov nad Toplou (Presov region) and Strazske (Kosice region) was blocked by fallen trees. A similar situation was seen on a road between the villages of Nizny Hrabovec and Tovarne (both Presov region), which was blocked by downed power lines and trees.
