Environmentalists propose pro-forest package to government

Czech environmentalists have drafted a package of measures to boost the condition of forests in the country, which they submitted to the Government Office today, mainly demanding a change in the tree species composition and a different model of business exploitation of state forests. Agriculture Minister Jiri Milek said the forest composition will change based on a planned government directive, but the environmentalists from the Friends of the Earth and the Platform for the Landscape movements say the directive unfortunately does not increase the share of the woody plants that firm the soil and boost water retention.
