Polish Energy Minister Krzysztof Tchorzewski met in Brussels on Monday with EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Canete to discuss a law regulating retail prices for electricity. The Ministry of Energy announced that Tchórzewski had presented the commissioner with a mechanism to stabilise retail electricity prices and the motives for its introduction. According to the ministry, the European Commission "gave thanks for cooperation to date and gave its assurance of its support for Poland with the aim of achieving a solution that will be satisfactory for both sides." The ministry noted that talks on the subject of "a stablisation mechanism for retail electrical energy prices in Poland" have been conducted at the political and expert level since the beginning of the year. "The aim of a range of meetings has been to work out a common position of the Polish Ministry of Energy and the European Commission that would enable the stabilisation of electrical energy prices while simultaneously respecting European law in the field of the common electrical energy market," the Energy Ministry said.
