Dam on Laborec River damaged, floods looming large

A dam on the Laborec River near Vojany (Kosice region) has been damaged by excavation work for the construction of a gas pipeline, resulting in the threat of acute floods in the area. The Slovak Water Management Company (SVP) has asked the relevant authorities for permission to open the Besa polder in order to prevent inhabited areas from being flooded, SVP spokesman Marian Bocak said.
