Czech Social Democrats to back different candidate after senator died

Czech Social Democrats (CSSD) may support a different candidate in the Opava ward in the autumn election to the Senate after their senator Vladimir Placek suddenly died on Thursday, party spokeswoman Petr Vurbs told journalists on Friday. Unlike the past, the Social Democrats have not fielded candidates for senators in all the contested wards. Placek's unexpected death further lowered the number of these candidates.
