Czech Senate flies historical Belarusian flag

August 19th, 2020

The Senate, the upper house od Czech parliament, hoisted the historical Belarusian flag at its seat in Prague today as an expression of support for civic freedoms in Belarus, its spokeswoman Sue Nguyen has told CTK. She said the flag hoisting is in harmony with the resolution which the Senate passed last week, condemning the police crackdowns on the demonstrators protesting against the rigged August 9 presidential elections, in which President Alexander Lukashenko smoothly defended his post for the sixth time. The Senate resolution called the crackdowns violent and evidently inappropriate and said the course of the elections was unfair and undemocratic.
