Czech parlt passes bill to lower politicians' pay for plurality of offices

March 13th, 2019

The remuneration for paid posts of regional and municipal representatives who are at the same time parliament or government members will be cut to two-fifths, under an amendment against plurality of offices that the lower house of the Czech parliament passed on Wednesday. The bill had been proposed by MPs for the senior government ANO and Pirates. The opposition Civic Democrats (ODS) proposed that the amendment be rejected and the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) wanted to return it to the second reading. The Senate, the upper house, is now to assess the amendment. The amendment was backed by 93 out of the 166 MPs present, while 40 voted against it and 33 abstained from the vote.
