The Czech health ministry has allowed the use of the Japanese drug favipiravir for COVID-19 that will be administered as the anti-flu drug Avigan with the patients' informed consent only as its use is experimental, according to a document that the ministry has released on its website. Other experimental drugs for COVID-19 have already been administered in Czech hospitals, such as remdesivir, developed against Ebola by a team headed by Czech Tomas Cihlar in the US Gilead firm, and medicines containing hydroxychloroquine.
