Czech govt acted beyond its power by postponing by-elections, says court

April 1st, 2020

The Czech government acted beyond its powers when it postponed the Senate by-elections in the Teplice ward, as it should have proposed the step to parliament for approval, the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS) said on Wednesday. The postponement procedure during the national state of emergency, which is now valid in the country due to the coronavirus epidemic, is defined by the law on the safety of the Czech Republic, the court said.
