Czech finance ministry wants customs officers to investigate tax crimes

April 27th, 2018

The Finance Ministry suggests that customs officers be able to investigate tax crimes, to which only the police have been authorised so far, in an amendment to the customs administration law and the amended penal order that the ministry has submitted. The ministry also proposed that customs officers have extended powers to look into criminal complaints regarding other types of taxes. They are currently able to check on criminal complaints concerning the VAT and excise tax only.
