Doctors from the Institute of Clinic and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) in Prague and from two Israeli hospitals made the first paired kidney exchange between the two countries earlier this month, IKEM director Michal Stiborek told a press conference today. This is for the first time that the Czechs exchanged kidneys with a non-EU country, he said. Within the multiple surgery, new kidney was given to three recipients from Czechia and three from Israel.
