Czech cabinet approves support for forest owners over bark beetle

The Czech government today approved subsidies of up to 2.5 billion crowns for private forest owners for this and next years to compensate them for lower wood market prices due to the bark-beetle calamity, the Agriculture Ministry has said in a press release. This year, forest owners are to get 1.5-billion-crown subsidies in total, while the ministry wants to negotiate about support of another billion in 2020. The subsidies will not go to the state forest management companies, such as Lesy CR and Vojenske lesy a statky.
