The Czech cabinet approved on Wednesday an amendment that stipulates pharmacists' obligation to verify the authenticity of all drugs by comparing the code on their packaging with the data in the European Medicines Verification System (EMVS), Health Minister Adam Vojtech has said. The amendment, which is to harmonise the law on medicines with the relevant EU directive, is yet to be discussed by the Chamber of Deputies. According to experts, counterfeit drugs in the Czech Republic are sold exclusively online. The Czech Chamber of Pharmacists maintains that the existing safety measures for dispensing medicines in pharmacies are sufficient though.
