Czech-born choreographer Kylian becomes French Academy member

May 30th, 2018

Czech-born choreographer and dancer Jiri Kylian, 71, has become a member of the French Academy that even proposed a new category of choreography over the importance of his work, Dance Prague festival spokeswoman Katerina Kavalirova told CTK on Wednesday. Kylian helped establish this festival 30 years ago. Its gala opening will be dedicated to him this year. The only other French Academy members in the dance field were Marcel Marceau and Maurice Bejart. However, they were admitted to the category of independent members since the special category of choreography did not exist back then.
