Czaputowicz: Polish presidency of UN Security Council to focus on human rights

April 2nd, 2019

Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz has taken part in a meeting in New York of the UN Security Council devoted to the observance of humanitarian law. The minister announced that Poland's August presidency of the Council will also focus on this issue. Czaputowicz pointed out that this coming August, marking the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions on humanitarian issues, will be an important month for Poland. He noted that not all countries respect the principles of humanitarian law, naming Syria among such countries and stressing that the local regime uses such measures as chemical weapons causing suffering among civilians.
