Restrictions effective in Hungary from Tuesday in connection with an uptick in coronavirus cases are aimed at protecting the health of Hungarians and ensuring their safety, the state secretary in charge of international communications and relations told a press conference on Monday. Zoltan Kovacs said the government is working to take timely action based on its own experiences during the first wave of the novel coronavirus epidemic as well as lessons learnt from international experience. Laszlo Balazs, head of the Border Police, said traffic will be checked at 67 border crossings from midnight. As a general rule, only Hungarian citizens will be allowed to enter the country, but they will also be required to enter quarantine for a period of two weeks.
