Chinese ambassador says censure of Czech govt warning of Huawei, ZTE 'mistake'

January 10th, 2019

Zhang Jianmin, China's ambassador to the Czech Republic, on Thursday said his harsh words regarding the Czech National Cyber and Information Security Office (NUKIB), which has earlier warned that Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE's technologies posed security risks. After a meeting with Prime Minister Andrej Babis, the embassy said that the NUKIB's warning was not based on reality. Babis called those statements "a lie", and on Thursday Zhang "said that both (Babis and Zhang) had made mistakes. Instead of putting out the fire, they stoked it," Senate chairman Jaroslav Kubera said after meeting the ambassador. He said Zhang had recognised that it was not fortunate for politicians to communicate via Twitter or Facebook.
