Basternak begins serving prison term

Ladislav Basternak reported to a Bratislava prison on Friday to begin his five-year sentence for tax evasion, the Justice and Prison Guard told TASR. Basternak will now undergo several medical checks, including psychological tests. The decision as to which of Slovakia's 17 prisons he will be transferred to will be made in a couple of days, or maybe even weeks. A senate of the Regional Court in Bratislava on Thursday handed down a five-year sentence at a minimum security prison to Basternak for tax evasion. Minimum security prison inmates are accommodated in rooms and not in cells.
